For years I drove by this music school and each time I promised myself I would drop in and sign up for guitar lessons. Earlier this year I actually did and I have not regretted it since. My tutor, Billy, is brilliant; he's patient, supportive and makes learning fun. The rest of the team (Joe and Steve) are just as helpful and willing to advise you according to your needs. I definitely recommend Southend Music School for all your musical needs. You will not be disappointed.

I joined South End Music School in January 2012 as an adult learner of piano, then at around Grade 2 standard. My tutor was fantastic, building up my knowledge and understanding of music, and my general self-confidence to perform. Unfortunately, for personal reasons he left the school in April 2015 which coincided with my being made redundant from work. I therefore had several months without a tutor and feared I would never find anyone as good. However, when I was able to return to South End Music School earlier this year, I was delighted to be allocated Marina Guy, who is a gifted piano tutor as well as a lovely person. She has brought me back to and extended the standard I had achieved previously. My daughter has since joined so that we share a one hour lesson between us, each learning from the other. Marina has encouraged us to explore various styles of music and shows great enthusiasm for our efforts. The guys in the shop have also always been extremely helpful. I cannot recommend both the school and Marina enough; the facilities and instruments provide a perfect learning environment, and I hope to continue for some time to come.
My daughter Patricia has piano lessons there. We used to have private tutors for 5 years before we started with this school and I am really pleased that the quality of teaching is on high level. Her tutor Billy keeps her motivated, and she is always happy after lesson. He is very systematic and I can easily hear the progress she makes every week. And most important think : she simply enjoys the piano lesson with him. I will definitely continue to use their service and soon my younger daughter will join them.
So far I have been attending lessons here for about eight weeks now. I am learning acoustic guitar with Mike, who is an excellent teacher.
While coming into this with the beginners perspective, I found the lessons to be very constructive and confidence building.
You can learn a lot in a half hour and I tend to enjoy my self set homework to try to master the new things I am being taught.
Mike is very patient and calm which is lovely, a genuinely amiable person who seems to be very at one with the guitar.
The best part is that the lessons are tailored to you, what you want to achieve and how you want to progress, even what you intend as an outcome is taken into account.
I've already raved and recommended lessons at the South End Music School to a few friends- often when I get home from my lessons ecstatic about something I've learned that week.
Both my daughters have piano lessons with Billy (their tutor) whom I can't praise enough. He is young and in touch with different ways to teach young children according to their ability and attention span. I have a very calm 6 year old and a wild 8 year old. He keeps both of them interested in learning and goes at their pace but pushes them to their full potential (without them realising it). My eldest has a short attention span but grasps piano quite easily, therefore he chose books that is interesting but not off putting. I am amazed and grateful for Billy's patience as my daughter is not an easy student to teach! My youngest is going at a steady pace and I guess less challenging to teach. .
I was reluctant at first to invest in piano lessons for my girls as I played as a child and hated it. However, my girls have taken to it like ducks to water and look forward to their lessons with Billy. I also have gained a love for the piano and learn with them so it is something we get involved in as a family.
I think learning is a partnership between parent and teacher and Billy definitely supports me, my situation and I am so pleased they have found a love for music. Do not take my word for it though, book a lesson and see for yourself!
