Mike Bennett

Mike has taught at South End Music School since 2001, he caters for students of all ages and abilities from beginner to advanced. His expertise enables him to teach in a wide variety of styles on both guitar and bass and he is particularly adept when constructing a unique teaching syllabus for individual students based on their goals and covering all aspects of playing and musicianship. His extensive knowledge covers technique, fretboard knowledge, improvisation, theory, repertoire and improving sight-reading and rhythm. Students can undertake grade examinations though the RockSchool and RGT (Registry of Guitar Tutors) up to Grade 8.
Alongside his busy teaching schedule Mike is a gigging musician with experience in T.V and radio performance. He has worked with artists such as Professor Green, Cerys Matthews, Lee Mead, Tom Jones and Ed Drewett.
Mike’s teaching style is always relaxed and engaging, while ensuring that each of his students gains a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of playing, he accessibly incorporates aspects of music theory to increase the understanding of a student’s practical playing. This approach enables students to move beyond basically learning pieces and songs towards developing their own playing style, and encourages improvisation, composition and developing performance technique.
